María Luisa de Villa (Oaxaca, México) Artista visual, curadora, investigadora en artes y cultura de México, maestría por la UNAM y una fuerza en la diáspora cultural, la maestra María Luisa de Villa es becaria del Canadá Council For The Arts, Ontario Arts Council, Toronto Arts Council, Art Gallery of Sudbury, York University, Canadian Heritage, Foreign Affairs Canada, Alianza Hispano Canadiense. Participa en exposiciones individuales y colectivas en México, Canadá, Estados Unidos, Europa y China; su obra se encuentra en colecciones públicas y privadas y es reconocida por su dibujo forma y contenido, reflejando un sentido de lugar y un mensaje oportuno en el siglo 21- el frágil balance entre el ser humano y la naturaleza.
Comprometida con el arte y con México, desde el arte promueve la flora, la poesía, culturas y voces indígenas de México. Cura intercambios creativos entre culturas, vinculando instituciones, empoderando a la mujer y comunidades en el espacio público de arte, a la vez, explorando una visión innovadora de los movimientos que fluyen en el tejido asociativo de la cultura. Reconocida por su pensamiento creativo por artistas y curadores, fue nombrada: maestra del dibujo por la curadora Judith Schwartz de Hart House Universidad de Toronto, Icono mexicano en Canadá por Notimex, y embajadora de México en Canadá por la historiadora y directora del centro histórico de CDMX Guadalupe Pérez San Vicente. Vive y trabaja entre México y Canadá desde 1961.
María Luisa de Villa (Oaxaca, Mexico) is a visual artist, curator, and researcher in Mexican arts and culture. Holding a master’s degree from UNAM, she stands as a powerful figure in the cultural diaspora. De Villa has been a grant recipient of the Canada Council for the Arts, Ontario Arts Council, Toronto Arts Council, Art Gallery of Sudbury, York University, Canadian Heritage, Foreign Affairs Canada, and the Hispanic Canadian Alliance.
Her work has been featured in solo and group exhibitions across Mexico, Canada, the United States, Europe, and China, and is part of both public and private collections. She is widely recognized for her mastery of form and content in drawing, reflecting a profound sense of place and a timely message for the 21st century — the fragile balance between humanity and nature.
Deeply committed to art and to Mexico, De Villa promotes the country’s flora, poetry, and Indigenous cultures and voices through her artistic practice. She curates creative exchanges between cultures, connecting institutions, empowering women and communities in the public art sphere, while exploring innovative perspectives on the dynamic movements woven into the cultural fabric.
Acknowledged by artists and curators for her creative vision, she has been named “Master of Drawing” by curator Judith Schwartz of Hart House, University of Toronto; “Mexican Icon in Canada” by Notimex; and “Ambassador of Mexico in Canada” by historian and former director of Mexico City’s Historic Center, Guadalupe Pérez San Vicente.
