From our very beginning, La Mano Mágica has been a pioneer in presenting outstanding Mexican folk art in an exhibit setting. Mary Jane was a driving force in encouraging Oaxacan folk artists to sign their works taking their craft from the anonymous to the singular.
In our second exhibit space we showcase true folk art, personal expressions by artists either self-trained or schooled in a family apprenticeship environment. We specialize in the carved wooden animals by Luis Pablo Mendoza and Maria Jimenez, the award-winning ceramics of the Alfonso Castillo family and native Huichol beadwork inspired by their ancestor spirits.
In the fourth room the focus is on more utilitarian applied crafts featuring classic lacquered trays and gourds, confetti colored hand-blown glass and high-fired ceramics from Puebla and the state of Mexico.
