Arnulfo Mendoza: Master Weaver and Painter |

Arnulfo´s life has been dedicated to art. Born in Teotitlán del Valle, Oaxaca, in 1954, he began weaving under his father’s tutelage at age 10. He studied fine art at the Escuela de Bellas Artes in Oaxaca and traveled to Paris in 1980 to extend his knowledge of weaving beyond Zapotec textile traditions and techniques.
Exhibitions
Arnulfo was the special guest weaver at the Oakland Museum for its 1992 exhibit, Patterns of Prestige: The Saltillo Sarape. In 1993, he was invited to Japan to create original tapestries for an international art project; two of his works are now part of a major public art collection in Tokyo. 2003 marked his major solo exhibit, Weaving a Cultural Testimony at The Mexican Fine Arts Center Museum in Chicago.

Awards
Citing his lifelong contribution to Mexican folk art, The Banamex Cultural Foundation has named Arnulfo one of 150 Great Masters of Mexican Folk Art. Through this traveling exhibit his work has been exhibited at museums in New York, Madrid, Dallas, Paris, Los Angeles and Berlin.
Arnulfo Mendoza's fine silk and wool rugs and tapestries are represented exclusively in Mexico by Galeria La Mano Mágica.
